March 2013

Let us Serenade you with wines from here and there

Serenade by Edgar Allan Poe
So sweet the hour, so calm the time,
I feel it more than half a crime,
When Nature sleeps and stars are mute,
To mar the silence ev'n with lute.
At rest on ocean's brilliant dyes
An image of Elysium lies:
Seven Pleiades entranced in Heaven,
Form in the deep another seven:
Endymion nodding from above
Sees in the sea a second love.
Within the valleys dim and brown,
And on the spectral mountain's crown,
The wearied light is dying down,
And earth, and stars, and sea, and sky
Are redolent of sleep, as I
Am redolent of thee and thine
Enthralling love, my Adeline.
But list, O list,- so soft and low
Thy lover's voice tonight shall flow,
That, scarce awake, thy soul shall deem
My words the music of a dream.
Thus, while no single sound too rude
Upon thy slumber shall intrude,
Our thoughts, our souls- O God above!
In every deed shall mingle, love.

On a lovely sunny Friday afternoon we drove up to Southern Right Vineyards to taste the latest sea-aged Sauvignon Blanc.
At the tasting Anthony Hamilton Russell awarded Lee Burman a beautifully sculptured Southern Right whale as a thank you gesture for all her hard work on Fynbos conservation in the Overstrand. Congratulation to Lee and a well-deserved award. Lee is a walking encyclopaedia on Fynbos and very very knowledgeable on the subject.
We were offered a tasting of the 2010 and 2011. The bottles were freshly pulled from the sea that morning. And decidedly quite delicious.
You will remember that the 2004 Sauvignon Blanc was sealed with normal capsules but this time round the bottles were sealed with wax and me-oh-my, what a stunner.
The wines were put to sea in August 2011 and will either be fished out this year or next year in August.
I am mighty curious to see how it will show then.
We will of course let you know as soon as it is released. The 2004 sea-aged vintage was sold out within hours. We loved that particular vintage and the barnacles and sea grass on the bottles was of course another draw card!

So as to not feel left out we have some delicious golden drops for you to smack your lips on this month with daily tastings on the following:
